Workforce Asobi says that whereas “nearly 100%” of its most-wishlisted iconic Sony characters made it into Astro Bot, it finds it “tough to remark” why Sq. Enix characters had been lacking.
Speaking to journalist Stephen Totilo, Workforce Asobi studio head Nicolas Doucet stated that regardless of hoping that “perhaps half” of the characters the crew approached can be greenlit, most “companions simply raised their hand and stated, “Completely'”.
Nonetheless, not all characters on the checklist made it in. When requested why there was no Remaining Fantasy 7’s Cloud cameo, as an illustration – or certainly, anybody from Nier or Kingdom Hearts – Doucet merely stated it “actually respect[s] the selection of every writer”.
“It is tough to touch upon [why Square Enix didn’t approve any cameos],” Doucet defined. “We actually respect the selection of every writer.”
Acknowledging the fragile stability between accessible characters that the majority gamers would recognise and “deep cuts” that fewer individuals might bear in mind, Doucet stated that the crew accepted that “at that time, you are speaking to much less individuals”, however needed to incorporate extra obscure characters as a result of the gamers that know them “might have the fondest reminiscences”.
